Geordie Elliott Brings Cattle Feeding and Breeding Expertise to Austasia Leadership Role

Beneath The Brim: Geordie Elliott

With a strong track record of showing cattle across Australia and running his own Simmental stud, cattle fitter Geordie Elliott knows first-hand how quality nutrition can best support livestock’s health, presentation and performance.

Stepping into the role of Southwest Business Manager at Austasia, Geordie is keen to help producers better understand the science-backed benefits of Austasia’s ZinMet and Beef Culture products.

“Austasia is a company that continues to find those crucial, incremental gains in feeding and nutritional efficiency,” says Geordie. “These products are proven and Australian-made. I’m excited to help producers see real improvements.”

Geordie has been involved in the professional livestock feeding industry for over 12 years and has a Certificate IV in Beef Production from Longreach Pastoral Company. He’s previously worked for Performance Feeds as the South Australian Territory Manager and WesternAg as the Livestock Production Specialist.

“I’ve always had involvement in the nutrition game,” says Geordie. “For me, it’s about helping producers achieve their production goals by looking at the whole management system and applying a tailored nutritional solution.”

Geordie grew up on a fifth-generation mixed cattle and sheep property, where his passion for livestock nutrition first sparked. Over the years, Geordie has prepared and exhibited cattle at numerous events across the Eastern seaboard to North America. He has shown steers and stud cattle from South Australia to Queensland and in recent times, also judged cattle competitions in most states.

“I’ve got core memories of showing steers at Adelaide Royal and Rockhampton,” says Geordie. “There’s something pretty special about putting a lot of work into an animal, seeing it perform on show day and taking home the broad ribbon.”

In 2009, Geordie received the JD Hudgins Brahman Scholarship for being a young, passionate and hardworking person in the beef industry. This scholarship involved a three month educational trip to the United States, where Geordie worked across various Southern seedstock operations.

“I had the opportunity to see a lot of very good cattle across Texas, Kentucky and Oklahoma,” says Geordie. “I got to work with some great families and operations from Texas to Miami and everywhere in between.”

Now running his own Simmental seedstock operation with wife Crystal and daughter Eva, Geordie is dedicated to providing the next generation with meaningful opportunities to show cattle. Geordie and Crystal exhibit cattle at the Royal Melbourne Show each year, with a team of local high school students.

Having judged both stud and carcase competitions at local and royal shows all over Australia, Geordie views youth engagement at shows as an essential part of the future of the cattle industry.

“I want to make sure showing cattle remains a vibrant part of our industry,” says Geordie. “It gives young people a chance to learn real livestock skills and develop real connections in the industry.”

Geordie’s passion for livestock and showing cattle has taken him all over Australia and the world. Geordie’s favourite industry events include the Houston Livestock Show and Rockhampton Beef Australia.

“I really enjoy a good industry event with new information and great conversations,” says Geordie, “I like to keep my finger on the pulse of what’s happening in our industry.”

Geordie works on the mantra that it’s important to focus on the challenges you “can” control, not the ones you can’t. He recalls a specific memory when working on a cattle and sheep property in Wales during a snowstorm.

“We had three weeks of four-foot ice,” says Geordie. “We had to do everything on foot, but we managed to save the majority of the herd.”

Geordie’s ability to navigate challenging situations and focus on practical solutions is crucial to his role at Austasia. With many challenges facing the livestock industry, Geordie relies on his hands-on experience and Austasia’s evidence-backed products to effectively support producers.

“I want to focus on showing up for our clients and helping them navigate operational challenges with proven nutritional solutions,” says Geordie.
